Water Restrictions

The following policy has been developed to assist Council to better managing its water resources more effectively.

This strategy introduces levels & actions required for water restriction implementation, which are triggered by Chinaman Creek Dam’s capacity shown as a percentage of capacity full. 

The following restrictions are to be automatically invoked once level is reached by the Chief Executive Officer without referral to Council.

Level

Chinaman Creek Dam Capacity

Restrictions

 

One 50% to 100% Operational all Year round until dam level drops to 50% of capacity. Sprinkling only between 6:00am to 9:00am and 6:00pm to 9:00pm "odds & evens"  
Two 50% Implement “odds & evens” water restrictions:- 6:00am -8:00am & 6:00pm – 8:00pm. Start public awareness program.  
Three 40% Reduce watering hours to 7:00am to 8:00am & 7:00pm to 8:00pm.  Continue public awareness program.  
Four 30% Total sprinkler ban. Hand Held Hose Permitted. Continue public awareness program.  
Five 20% Total sprinkler ban. Limited hand held hose use permitted. Continue public awareness program.  

Level One (1) Water Restrictions

(Operational all year round until dam level drops to 50% of capacity)

  •  Sprinklers are permitted between 6:00am to 9:00am and 6:00pm to 9:00pm on Alternate Days. i.e. properties with even house/lot numbers are permitted use on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays and properties with odd house/lot numbers are permitted use on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. No Sprinklers or unattended hoses are permitted on Mondays.
  • Microspray and drip systems can be used between 6:00am to 9:00am and 6:00pm to 9:00pm on alternate days.
  • Newly-constructed pools and spas cannot be filled for the first time without permission from Council.
  • Fountains and water ornaments can only operate if they recycl the water.
  • Washing privately owned cars, boats and other vehicles is permitted.
  • Water must not be used to clean paved or concreted area, except for health and safety reasons.

 


Level Two (2) Water Restrictions 50%

  • Sprinklers and unattended hoses are not permitted at any time.
  • Lawn, grassed areas and gardens can only be watered using a hand-held hose.
  • Water must not be used to clean paved or concrete areas, except for health and safety reasons.
  • Washing privately owned cars, boats and other vehicles is permitted. (only to wet and rince the Vehicle.)


Level Five (5) Water Restrictions 20%

  • Strictly no hosing of driveways or footpaths except for health and safety reasons.
  • Washing cars, boats and other vehicles is not permitted.
  • Sprinklers and unattended hoses are not permitted at any time.
  • Strictly no watering of lawn, grassed area and gardens
