The Cloncurry Shire, located in North West Queensland, encompasses approximately 48,000km of diverse landscapes.

Cloncurry is nestled on the banks of the Cloncurry River, located 700km west of Townsville and 120km east of Mount Isa. Cloncurry offers a unique lifestyle with a mixture of transport, mining, pastoral and tourism.

Few places can claim to have diverse and unique landscapes, from picturesque riverways to arid outback locations. Mining has a rich history in the Cloncurry Shire and there are a number of old mining remains and ghost towns, including Mary Kathleen Mine.

As a film-friendly Council, we want to make it as easy as possible for filmmakers and scouts to find the right locations for their projects. Council’s Economic Development and Tourism Manager can assist with filming permits and logistics in the Cloncurry Shire.

Film Incentive Program

Cloncurry Shire Council offers incentives to producers willing to film within the Shire. The Council has committed to supporting the film industry and has allocated funding to help assist film makers. The funding is available to film makers wanting to capture their short film, feature film, pilots or series in the Shire of Cloncurry.

The cooler season, the Dry Season, in Cloncurry, is from May to August with an average daily high temperate below 27°C. The coldest month, July, has an average low of 10°C and a high of 25°C.

The hotter season, the Wet Season, in Cloncurry, is from October to March with an average daily high temperature above 35°C. The hottest month is December and it has an average high of 37°C and a low of 24°C.

Cloncurry Airport

Cloncurry is situated along the Flinders Highway, which runs from Townsville to Mount Isa. This road is a main transport route. Cloncurry is approximately 120km from Mount Isa, which receives regular flights from Townsville, Cairns and Brisbane.

Some locations in the Cloncurry Shire are only accessible by 4WD. Check in with the Cloncurry Unearthed Visitor Information Centre for details about roads in the shire.

Cloncurry Shire Council requires permits for commercial film and photography occurring on Council controlled land. Consent is not required for filming or photography conducted solely on private property.

There are a number of locations in the shire that are not managed by Council, so you do not require a permit from Council. If you would like to film on private property you will be required to contact with the property owners to request permission.
