Australia Day Award Nominations 2026

The Cloncurry Shire Council Australia Day Awards celebrate the hard work and commitment of individuals and community groups throughout the Shire. The awards provide an opportunity to nominate, publicly recognise and celebrate those who have gone above and beyond in our community. The Cloncurry Australia Day Citizenship & Awards Ceremony will be on Monday, 26 January 2026.

If you cannot nominate via the online form, please download a printable form here(PDF, 8MB). Drop this nomination form off at the Council Administration Office or email council@cloncurry.qld.gov.au.

Award Categories

Citizen of the Year
This award recognises a person that has made an outstanding contribution to the community or has been an inspirational role model for the community. Nominees must be 25 years of age or over as of 26 January 2026.

Young Citizen of the Year
This award is presented to a person that has made a noteworthy contribution and/or given outstanding service to the local community. Must be younger than 25 years of age as of 26 January 2026.

Community Volunteer of the Year
This award is presented to a person that has made a significant contribution in a voluntary capacity during the calendar year of 2025.

Community Event of the Year
This award is presented to a person or group that has staged the most outstanding community event during the calendar year of 2025.

Senior Sports Award
This award is presented to individuals or teams who have made a noteworthy record of achievement in sport within the community. Nominees must be 18 years of age or older as of 26 January 2025.

Dave Watt Memorial Junior Sport Award
This award is presented to individuals or teams who have made a noteworthy record of achievement in sport within the community. Nominees must be 17 years of age or younger as of 26 January 2026.

Arts and Culture Award
This award is presented to a person that has made a noteworthy contribution to the arts & cultural life of the community or an outstanding achievement in an arts & cultural activity during the calendar year of 2025.

Achievement Award
This award is presented to a person that has made a significant contribution to the local community or exceptional achievement in a chosen field during the calendar year of 2025.

Community Organisation Award
This award is presented to a community organisation that has made a significant contribution to the Cloncurry Shire during the calendar year of 2025.

Southern Gulf NRM Sarus Crane Award
This award is presented to an individual or group for their contributions to the sustainable future of the Southern Gulf region. The award recognises significant contributions towards land and water management, conservation and cultural preservation. Conditions of Entry

Conditions of Entry

  1. The nominated person must be an Australian citizen and have resided within the Cloncurry Shire Local Government Area during 2025 and at the time of nomination.
  2. Self nominations will not be accepted.
  3. Nominators must be 18 years of age or older.
  4. Up to 5 pieces of supporting documentation such as citations, media clippings or photographs may be attached to the nomination.
  5. Nominations will be reviewed by the appointed judging panel. The judges' decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

Information Privacy Act 2009. Cloncurry Shire Council is collecting the personal information you provide on this form for the purpose of processing this application. This information will only be used by authorised Council Officers and a panel of judges selected by Council to assess the Australia Day Award nominations. Information on award winners will be published on Council's website and released to the media. This information will not be disclosed to any other third party without your consent unless required or authorised by law.
