Description

The Cloncurry Shire Council will develop a modern asphalt pump track and skate park within the Mary Kathleen Memorial Park. The development will create an inclusive and engaging public space featuring complementary landscaping, seating, shade structures, safety infrastructure, and potential lighting to support extended community use and improve visitor amenity.

This project has been driven by strong community advocacy and Council’s commitment to delivering high-quality recreational infrastructure that meets the needs of residents, particularly young people.

The pump track and skate park will provide a safe, accessible, and purpose-built environment for a range of wheeled sports and recreational activities, encouraging physical activity, social interaction, and skill development for users of all ages and abilities. Located within a central and well-utilised civic precinct, the facility will enhance the activation of Mary Kathleen Memorial Park and contribute to the ongoing revitalisation of Cloncurry’s public open spaces.

Objectives

This project aims to promote active recreation opportunities by delivering a safe, accessible, and inclusive pump track and skate park that caters to residents of all ages, abilities, and skill levels. The facility will encourage participation in cycling, skating, scootering, and other wheeled sports, promoting lifelong engagement in physical activity while fostering social connection and community interaction.

The project will support community wellbeing by providing a purpose-built outdoor recreation space that contributes to improved physical and mental health outcomes. It will also create opportunities for young people to develop confidence, resilience, coordination, and technical skills within a safe and challenging environment designed to encourage progression and personal achievement.

The key objectives of the project are to:

• Design and construct a compliant, high-quality, and community-endorsed pump track and skate park.
• Deliver supporting infrastructure and amenities, including landscaping, seating, shade, safety features, and lighting (where appropriate), to maximise functionality, accessibility, and user experience.
• Increase participation in cycling, skating, and other wheeled sports, encouraging healthy and active lifestyles across the community.
• Create an inclusive community space that promotes social interaction, youth engagement, and positive recreational outcomes.
• Enhance the attractiveness and activation of public open spaces within Cloncurry.
