A Murriality March - July

“A Murriality" is an art exhibition created by esteemed Cloncurry-born Waanyi artist Gordon Hookey. Gordon’s artworks are prominently featured in major collections across Australia, including the Queensland Art Gallery, Gallery of Modern Art in Brisbane, The Art Gallery of Western Australia in Perth, and The National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne.

His work is renowned for its incisive satire of Australian societal and political norms, its astute critique of racism, and its investigation into oral and visual storytelling traditions. Spanning mediums such as sculpture, printmaking, video, and large-scale painting, the exhibition "A MURRIALITY" offers perspectives on both historical and contemporary challenges faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Informed by Hookey's own experiences as a Murri individual, the exhibition delves into themes such as legal injustices, global conflicts, cultural representations, and language preservation.

“A Murriality” will be on display at the Dr David Harvey-Sutton Gallery until 6 July 2024.
